Albany, New York
 
Albany is the capital of New York and has an estimated population of more than 1,147,000 making it the third largest city in New York. Historically, Albany is the fourth oldest city in the whole country and the second oldest state capital. There were two forts first build in the area by the French in honor of the Dutch House of Orange-Nassau, but the land was taken over by the English in 1664 and the name was officially changed to Albany in honor of the Duke of York and Albany. The location of Albany is part of its importance because it lies on the Hudson river which makes it an important spot for the steamboat line from New York City to Albany.
There are great things to see in Albany including the New York State Capitol, Empire State Plaza, Corning Tower Observation Deck, State Street, Washington Park, and more. There are many things to do while you are there as well. There is the tulip Festival, the Albany Pine Bush Preserve, Thacher State Park, New York State Museum, the Albany Institute of History and Art, the Capital District Scottish Games, Capital Repertory Theater and the Palace Theatre.
